River Rats team bus crashes, three hurt
The team bus for the Albany River Rats professional ice hockey team crashed Thursday in Massachusetts, leaving three people injured, state police say.
Jeff Daniels, the coach of the American Hockey League team, said those injured in the accident on the Massachusetts Turnpike were players and team employees, The Albany (N.Y.) Times-Union reported.
While the names and conditions of the injured team members have not been released, the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, he said.
We were very fortunate and lucky, the River Rats coach added.
Daniels said the team had been returning from Lowell, Mass., when the bus slid in the snow and began to roll. The team vehicle then hit a guardrail and came to rest on its side.
Daniels told the Times-Union the injured are being treated at the Berkshire Medical Center.
They’ve been great looking after us, Daniels said of center staff members.
The shock is starting to wear off.
