Report: Steinbrenner at Yankees camp
Posted on: Thursday, 19 February 2009, 13:44 CST
Former principal owner George Steinbrenner appeared Thursday at the New York Yankees' Tampa, Fla., spring training complex, New York newspapers reported.
His appearance was noted by both the New York Post and the New York Daily News.
Because of his declining health, the 78-year-old Steinbrenner has been seen only twice since he turned the Yankees management over to sons Hank and Hal in 2008.
Last season, he attended Opening Day in April and the All-Star Game in July. Thursday, Steinbrenner got around Steinbrenner Field in a golf cart and his wheelchair.
How are you doing?
Steinbrenner asked a Post reporter.
Asked how he was doing, The Boss
said, I feel good.
Steinbrenner's appearance made the day like old home week at the team's spring training facility because former Yankee outfielder Bernie Williams also visited.
Williams, who was not re-signed after the 2006 season, is preparing to play for his native Puerto Rico in March at the World Baseball Classic.
