Injury keeps Nadal out of Dubai tournament
February 19, 2009
World No. 1-ranked Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from next week’s $2.3 million Dubai Tennis Championships because of a knee injury.
Nadal said he would rest the right knee so he would be ready to play for Spain in a first-round Davis Cup series in two weeks.
Nadal strained a ligament in a loss Sunday to Andy Murray.
Earlier this week, world No. 2-ranked Roger Federer said he was pulling out of the Dubai tournament because of a back injury. Federer said the back problem would keep him from playing in Switzerland’s Davis Cup first-round matches against the United States.
