Big 12 suspends Tech coach for one game
Texas Tech Coach Pat Knight has been suspended for one game for a second flap over officiating, the Big 12 Conference said Monday.
Knight will miss Wednesday’s game in which the Red Raiders, 12-15 overall and 2-10 in the Big 12, go against No. 24 Texas.
It is the second disciplinary action the league has taken against Knight this season. He was given a public reprimand after his actions during a game against Nebraska in which he was ejected for received two technical fouls.
I was extremely lenient in that case and chose not to suspend Coach Knight, Big 12 Commissioner Dan Beebe said in a statement.
The nature and extent of his comments after the Texas A&M game, and his callous attitude in light of his commitment to me to abide by the rules, require a serious penalty.
After Texas Tech loss to Texas A&M last Saturday, it was pointed out to Knight that the Aggies shot 51 free throws while his team shot 22. Knight said checking with the league office about such things
obviously doesn’t work and the foul discrepancy was
just not right.
