Milan Michalek and Patrick Marleau scored power-play goals in the second period Thursday night, rallying the San Jose Sharks to a 2-1 win over Ottawa.

The Sharks won for the fifth time in six games. Brian Boucher allowed a power-play goal to Mike Fisher in the first period, but was perfect the rest of the way in helping San Jose increase its lead at the top of the Western Conference to five points over Detroit.

Marleau was credited with the game-winning goal at 8:34 in the second when Jeremy Roenick’s one-timer deflected off him and past goaltender Alex Auld. It was Marleau’s 34th goal, tying a career high set three seasons ago.

Marleau’s score came 78 seconds after Michalek had tied it with a wrist shot.

Auld allowed two goals on 24 shots.
