Penguins get Guerin from N.Y. Islanders

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired veteran winger Bill Guerin from the New York Islanders for a conditional draft pick.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported the pick is a fifth-rounder, but will become a No. 4 if the Penguins qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs, and a third-rounder if they advance to the second round.

The teams made the deal just before Wednesday’s NHL trading deadline.

The 38-year-old Guerin signed a two-year deal with the Islanders in the summer of 2007 and was named their captain before the start of the 2007-08 season.

The entire Islanders organization has the utmost respect for Bill Guerin and we sincerely thank him for his time on Long Island and as the team’s captain, Islanders general manager Garth Snow said.

This season, Guerin has 36 points (16 goals, 20 assists) in 61 games, and in his career, has compiled 799 points (403 goals, 396 assists) in 1,168 NHL contests.
