NCAA hits Fla. State with probation
The NCAA hit Florida State with a number of penalties for major violations including academic fraud across 10 sports involving more than 60 student-athletes.
The ACC school received four years probation, reduced scholarships, and several records were vacated.
Florida State University officials are pleased that the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions,
the school said in a statement to the Tallahassee Democrat. (We have) accepted the findings and acknowledged that nearly all of the penalties self-imposed by the university were appropriate. The university will seek clarification of a specific penalty requiring it to vacate wins and will consider its appellate opportunities under NCAA procedures.
FSU was told that wins would be vacated where ineligible student-athletes competed in football, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s track, baseball, softball and men’s golf during the 2006 and 2007 academic years.
The Democrat added that the school has 90 days to identify the ineligible student-athletes and what victories would have to be vacated.
