Ichiro Suzuki broke out of a slump Saturday by going 3-for-5, helping Japan rout South Korea 14-2 in the second round of the World Baseball Classic in Tokyo.
Because of tournament rules, the contest was called after seven innings because Japan led by more than 10 runs.
Suzuki went hitless in five trips in Thursday's 4-0 win over China, but Saturday he hit the first of three straight singles, which led to a 3-2 first-inning lead.
A three-run homer by Shuichi Murata helped increase the lead to 8-2 in the top of the second.
Norichika Aoki also had three RBI for the defending WBC champion.
Suzuki scored three times, while the Mariners' Kenji Johjima also had three hits, one a two-run, sixth-inning homer. Winning pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka (Boston) yielded two runs and four hits in four innings.
Kim Tae-Kyun's two-run, first-inning homer produced South Korea's only runs.
Losing pitcher Kim Kwang-Hyun surrendered eight earned runs and seven hits in 1 1/3 innings.
