Report: Upshaw’s wife slams Troy Vincent
Terri Upshaw says Troy Vincent is not the right candidate to be the next top executive of the NFL Players Association, Sports Illustrated reported.
Her husband, Gene, held the post for 25 years before he died last August shortly after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Terri Upshaw told SI.com this week that while she cleaning out her husband’s Washington office recently, she came across e-mails documenting Vincent’s alleged role in controversies that surfaced in December 2007 during his candidacy for the executive director position.
She claimed her husband discovered Vincent was involved in a coup attempt to head the union at NFLPA’s annual meeting in 2008 in Maui, Hawaii.
The magazine said it was told by sources within the union that Gene Upshaw was planning to confront Vincent with the evidence he had collected linking him to the disclosure of the confidential information, the coup attempt and other matters that concerned him about the intersection of Vincent’s business practices.
