Oaklawn horse track hikes product lines

Racing at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., has invoked across-the-board increases in all product lines after the first half of its 54-day season.

In a release, the track said all overnight claiming races are being increased by $300.

On-track attendance at the midway point of Oaklawn's season is 279,189 compared with 269,797 in the same period last of 2008, a 3 percent increase.

Numbers from the first half of our season are surprisingly good, Oaklawn President Charles J. Cella said recently, especially when you consider the current economy. Racing fans enjoy full fields with competitive racing, and thanks to our horsemen, this has become an Oaklawn tradition.

Racing at Oaklawn runs through April 11, when the season will conclude with the $1,000,000 Arkansas Derby, an important Triple Crown prep race.
