Dwight Howard had 18 points and 15 rebounds Sunday to lead Orlando past Boston 86-79, but the Magic had to hold off a Celtics comeback to secure the victory.
Orlando was up by 22 in the second half when Boston climbed back into the game, pushed along by a 17-point fourth quarter for Ray Allen -- who missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer with a little more than 40 seconds left to play.
Rashard Lewis connected on two free throws with 23 seconds left to seal the win for the Celtics, who were playing without Kevin Garnett (knee) and Rajon Rondo (ankle), and lost Glen Davis to a third-quarter ankle injury.
Lewis finished 15 points and Hedo Turkoglu scored 16 for Orlando, which won for the seventh time in nine games and pulled within two games of the Celtics for the Eastern Conference second seed.
Allen had 32 points and nine rebounds for Boston, which lost for just the third time in eight games since Garnett was sidelined. Paul Pierce had 16 points and eight rebounds for the Celtics.
