Louisville tops latest men’s hoops poll
Big East Tournament champion Louisville was the nation's No. 1 team when the latest USA Today/ESPN college basketball poll was released Sunday night.
The Cardinals (28-5), the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament, topped Syracuse, 77-66, in Saturday's Big East final at New York's Madison Square Garden, and will start the big dance Friday in Dayton against the winner of Tuesday's game between Morehead State and Alabama State.
In the latest poll, Memphis (31-3) was second, last week's No. 1, North Carolina (28-4) was third, Pittsburgh (28-4) fourth, and ACC Tournament champion Duke (28-6) was fifth.
Connecticut (27-4), Michigan State (26-6), Oklahoma (27-5), Missouri (28-6) and Gonzaga (26-5) rounded out the top 10.
Spots 11-20 were filled by Wake Forest, Villanova, reigning national champion Kansas, Washington, Syracuse, Florida State, UCLA, Purdue, Arizona State and LSU.
The final five teams are Clemson, Xavier, Butler, Marquette and Utah State.
