COL BKB: Kansas St. 83, Ill. State 79 (OT)
A seven-point effort in overtime by Jacob Pullen Wednesday carried Kansas State to an 83-79 NIT victory over Illinois State.
Pullen scored a career-high 32 points and pulled off an alert play to clinch the victory, sending the Wildcats into a second-round meeting with San Diego State.
Kansas State earned a shot at overtime when Dominique Sutton seized an offensive rebound and scored with 4 seconds left in the second half.
Pullen then put the Wildcats in front by a point with 14 seconds to go in the extra session by hitting a layup. Only one second remained when Kansas State’s Ron Anderson went to the free throw line and he made his first attempt.
Anderson missed his second try and the ball was ruled to have gone out of bounds off Illinois State before the final buzzer sounded. Pullen then bounced the ball off an Illinois State player on the inbounds pass, grabbed it and made a layup for the final score.
Illinois State was led by Champ Oguchi with 23 points.
