COL BKB: Duke 86, Binghamton 62
Jon Scheyer led six players in double figures Thursday night and Duke coasted to an 86-62 win over Binghamton in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament.
The Blue Devils enjoyed surges early in each half to move within one victory of the 30-win mark this season. They will try to get that win in the second round Saturday against Texas, which rallied to defeat Minnesota earlier Thursday.Duke held the Bearcats scoreless for a 2-minute stretch early in the game while taking a 19-7 lead and then kept Binghamton without a point for almost 4 minutes early in the second half en route to a 26-point cushion.
Lance Thomas added 14 points for the Blue Devils and both Gerald Henderson and Nolan Smith had 13.
Binghamton, which won both the regular-season title and the tournament crown in the America East Conference, finished its season at 23-9. The Bearcats were led by D.J. Rivera with 20 points.
