Steelers-Titans open ’09 NFL season
The defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers will open the 2009 NFL season Thursday, Sept. 10, at home against Tennessee.
The NFL announced its prime time games for the 2009 Kickoff Weekend and Thanksgiving Day schedule Monday at its annual meeting.
As usual, the Super Bowl champion will again host the season-opening game on Thursday night. The Steelers won Super Bowl XLIII with a 27-23 victory over Arizona.
Pittsburgh will meet the team that had the best record in the NFL during the regular season. The Titans were 13-3 and won the AFC South before losing to Baltimore in the divisional playoffs.
The other prime time games for Kickoff Weekend will have Chicago at Green Bay on Sunday night and Buffalo at New England and San Diego at Oakland on Monday night.
The Thanksgiving games will be Green Bay at Detroit, Oakland at Dallas, and the New York Giants at Denver.
