Angel McCoughtry’s 22 points, 12 rebounds and five assists Saturday powered Louisville to a 56-39 NCAA Tournament victory over second-seeded Baylor in Raleigh.
Louisville, the third seed in the Eastern Regional, forged a 28-19 halftime lead and its lone deficit was 17-15 after Kelli Griffin’s free throw with 6:35 left before the break.
A 12-0 second-half spurt, part of a game-ending 18-2 run, helped UL turn the contest into a rout.
Candyce Bingham scored 15 with 15 rebounds for the Lady Cardinals (32-4), winners in 11 of their last 12 outings.
They face either No. 4 seed Vanderbilt or top-seeded Maryland in Monday’s regional final.
Melissa Jones’s 13 points and five rebounds led the Lady Bears (29-6), who had beaten No. 15 Texas-San Antonio in overtime in the first round followed by a 60-58 win over seventh-seeded South Dakota State in the second.
