Haynesworth enters not guilty plea

Washington Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has entered a not guilty plea to charges of reckless driving and having an expired registration.

The charges stem from a vehicular crash last December in which another driver was seriously injured.

The 6-foot-6 inch, 320-pounder was playing for the Tennessee Titans when he attempted to pass another vehicle, but the driver, Corey Edmondson, 25, of Antioch, Tenn., had to take evasive action, lost control, and crashed into the concrete median.

Edmonson suffered severe injuries that left him disabled and since has undergone two surgeries, one for a hip replacement.

Haynesworth, 27, signed a seven-year, $100 million contract in February with the Redskins, $41 million guaranteed. The deal made him the NFL’s highest-paid defensive lineman.

He was not required to appear in Williamson County (Tenn.) when his attorney, Glenn Funk, entered his plea earlier this week.

The (Nashville) Tennessean reported last month that Edmonson’s attorney said his client’s medical bills could total $350,000.
