German rider suspended for doping
A member of the German Olympics equestrian team jumping squad has been suspended because his horse tested positive for a banned substance.
Rider Christian Ahlmann was suspended for eight months, retroactive to August 2008, after the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland upheld an appeal, the group announced Thursday. Ahlmann is eligible to return to competition April 20.
The CAS said after the Olympics team jumping competition, in which Germany finished eighth, Ahlmann’s horse, Coster, tested positive for Capsaicin. Ahlmann was suspended in October for four months by the Tribunal of the International Equestrian Federation.
Ahlmann and the German Equestrian Federation appealed the FEI ruling and Ahlmann requested the suspension be reduced to three months.
Thursday’s announcement by the CAS upheld the German Equestrian Federation appeal.
