High-scoring Tampa Bay Lightning center Vincent Lecavalier is scheduled for season-ending right wrist surgery.

He originally was slated to undergo the procedure last summer, but a shoulder injury pushed it back.

Friday’s surgery will be performed by Dr. A. Lee Osterman at the Philadelphia Hand Center.

Obviously, it is disappointing that Vinny will not be able to finish the season, but we feel that it is in both his and the team’s best interest to have the wrist operated on now, said Lightning executive vice president and general manager Brian Lawton on the team’s Web site. Vinny has been battling this injury all season and I really can’t say enough about his ability to play through the pain and discomfort.

In 77 games this season, the 29-year-old Lecavalier, a 10-year veteran and four-time NHL all-star, has compiled 67 points (29 goals and 38 assists), and has scored at least 25 goals in six straight seasons.
