Renee Montgomery had 26 points, six assists and four steals Sunday to lead undefeated Connecticut past Stanford 83-64 and into the NCAA women’s title game.
The Huskies (38-0) will meet Louisville Tuesday in a battle of Big East powers for the women’s championship. The Cardinals — who beat Oklahoma 61-59 in Sunday’s other Final Four contest — have lost twice to Connecticut this season by a combined total of 67 points.
Maya Moore had 24 points and eight rebounds for the Huskies Sunday. Tina Charles finished with eight points and 12 rebounds.
Jayne Appel — who scored 46 points last Monday in a 74-53 win over Iowa State in the Berkeley Regional final — had 26 points for Stanford (33-5) Sunday.
Stanford used a 10-2 first-half run to go ahead 14-13, but Connecticut fired back with a 13-2 run to finish the half and took a 37-24 lead at intermission.
