Marian Hossa had two goals and an assist Monday to lead the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-1 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.
Nicklas Lidstrom had a goal and an assist and Brad Stuart also scored for the Red Wings. Chris Osgood made 32 saves to earn the 389th win of his NHL career and move into a tie with former teammate Dominik Hasek for 10th place on the all-time list.
Detroit, with 111 points, is four points behind San Jose for the top spot in the Western Conference.
Paul Gaustad had the lone goal for the Sabres, who have lost three of their last four games and remain four points behind both the Rangers and Panthers for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Ryan Miller made 28 saves on 31 shots.
