McCaffrey signs new deal at Sienna

Sienna College men's basketball coach Fran McCaffrey agreed to an eight-year contract Wednesday through the 2016-17 season.

The deal follows a 27-8 record, a second consecutive MAAC Championship, and a 74-72 overtime victory against Ohio State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my first four years at Sienna and am very proud of all that we have accomplished, McCaffery said on the school's Web site. The continued support of the administration and Sienna community has made this place a very special home for me and my family. I look forward to building upon our recent success.

This season's 27 wins equaled a program record and marked the most ever in the Division I era.

The Loudonville, N.Y., school has an 86-43 overall record with two MAAC titles in McCaffrey's four seasons.

It was important that Sienna show it is committed to the basketball program and its head coach, Director of Athletics John D'Argenio said.
