Boston College extends AD’s contract
Boston College Director of Athletics Gene DeFilippo has been given a contract extension through May 2014, the college announced Monday.
DeFilippo has been with the Boston College athletic department since Sept. 16, 1997, and is credited with strengthening the college’s academic support, facilities and fundraising, Boston College said in a release.
During his time with Boston College, the Eagles’ student-athletes have posted the highest graduation rates among NCAA Division I programs. Boston College won the Athletic Director’s Award for Academic Excellence last year.
Gene DeFilippo has provided tremendous leadership and vision to Boston College’s athletics program and he is also a great ambassador for our university, said school President William P. Leahy.
I am pleased that he will be with us for at least another five years.
Prior to joining Boston College, DeFilippo was director of athletics at Villanova from 1993-97. He’s also worked in the athletic departments at Kentucky, South Carolina-Spartanburg and Vanderbilt.
