Bill Guerin’s power-play goal with 1:31 left in overtime Friday gave the Pittsburgh Penguins a 3-2 win over Philadelphia and a 2-0 lead in their playoff series.

The Flyers came close to stealing a road win in the opening-round series, but Evgeni Malkin scored on the power play with 3:37 left in the third period to force overtime.

A second extra period was looming when Philadelphia’s Mike Knuble was called for cross-checking with 3:05 left. Claude Giroux was called for slashing 30 seconds later, giving Pittsburgh a two-man advantage.

Sergei Gonchar then sent the puck from the left point down to Guerin, who stuffed it past Martin Biron for his second goal of the game.

Guerin had tied it at 1-1 with 3:22 to go in the second period.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 38 saves to get the win. Scott Hartnell and Darroll Powe scored for Philadelphia, which has lost six of its last seven playoff games against Pittsburgh.

The Penguins downed the Flyers in last year’s Eastern Conference finals.

Philadelphia will host the third and fourth games of the series Sunday and Tuesday.
