MLB: Minnesota 11, Los Angeles Angels 9
Jason Kubel hit for the cycle Friday, completing it with a grand slam homer that rallied the Minnesota Twins to an 11-9 win over the Los Angeles Angels.
Kubel’s slam capped a seven-run eighth inning that began with the Twins facing a 9-4 deficit. He drove in five runs, while Brendan Harris and Denard Span had two RBI each.
Minnesota had lost five of its previous six games.
It was the ninth cycle in franchise history, the most recent having been produced by Carlos Gomez last May.
Kubel had an RBI double in the first, singled in the third and tripled in the sixth. His home run landed in the upper deck off Jason Bulger (0-1).
Matt Guerrier (1-0) allowed two hits and a run over 1 1/3 innings of relief to get the win. Joe Nathan recorded his second save.
