Edgar Renteria's grand slam was the knockout blow in San Francisco's 8-3 victory over the San Diego Padres Tuesday.
Renteria collected five RBIs and scored twice for the Giants, who got two more RBIs from Travis Ishikawa and another strong outing from starting pitcher Matt Cain (2-0).
Cain struck out five and gave up two runs on nine hits in his third start of the season. He has given up just five runs in 19 innings this spring.
Jake Peavy (0-1), who won the National League Cy Young Award in 2007, was touched for six runs on seven hits in six innings.
The Padres staked Peavy to a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Brian Giles, who had a two hits and a two RBIs.
After San Francisco tied the game in the third on a bases-loaded double-play ball, the Padres went ahead 2-1 on Kevin Kouzmanoff's double. The advantage didn't last long as the Giants scored five in their half of the inning, including Renteria's grand slam to left field, to make it 5-2.
After Ishikawa made it 8-2 with his two-run double in the eighth, Giles contributed his second RBI in the ninth to close out the scoring.
