Dwyane Wade led the way with 33 points Wednesday, helping Miami seize control early en route to a 108-93 victory over Atlanta.
The Heat tied the best-of-seven playoff series at 1-1, building an 18-point lead in the opening moments of the third period.
Atlanta closed with five with 4 minutes to play, but Udonis Haslem slowed down the comeback with a jumper and Wade's 3-pointer with 2:36 remaining gave Miami a 101-91 cushion.
Wade's effort followed a 19-point performance in the first game of the series, during which he committed eight turnovers in a 26-point loss.
Miami will host the third game Saturday.
Daequan Cook made 6-of-9 attempts from 3-point range and scored 20 points for Miami. Jermaine O'Neal added 19.
Mike Bibby paced Atlanta with 18 points and Josh Smith had 17.
Miami made 55 percent of its shots from the field and was good on 15-of-26 3-pointers.
