Rafael Nadal won his fifth straight Barcelona Open title by beating fellow Spaniard David Ferrer 6-2, 7-5 in Sunday’s final.

The battle was a rematch of the 2008 final, won by Nadal 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.

Sunday’s victory improved Nadal’s record to 142-4 on clay courts since 2005.

I never imagined anything like this, Nadal said after his 25th straight clay court victory. To win again here in Barcelona, in my home club and at such an important tournament is incredible.

He earned a $370,000 champion’s check.

Ferrer recorded three service breaks, the only ones against Nadal the entire tournament.

He last beat Nadal in the 2007 Tennis Masters Cup with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win in round-robin play.
