Win Willy scratched from Kentucky Derby
Rebel Stakes winner Win Willy fhas been pulled from Saturday’s Kentucky Derby because of an ankle injury.
Trainer Mac Robertson said an X-ray of the colt’s right front ankle indicated the start of a fracture, prompting the decision to scratch him from the race.
It’s nothing serious, but it could lead to something serious, and we’re not going to take a chance, Robertson said.
Win Willy became the fourth horse to exit the Derby field.
Florida Derby winner Quality Road was withdrawn Monday because of a pair of quarter-crack injuries and Square Eddie was scratched Tuesday because of shin problems. Also on Tuesday, the owners of Take the Points decided to pull out of the Derby and prepare the horse for the Preakness two weeks later.
