Casey Blake put Los Angeles in front for good by scoring on an error in the seventh inning Thursday and the Dodgers outlasted San Diego 8-5.
The lead changed hands four times in the game, but the Dodgers finally took control in the seventh and added two insurance runs in the eighth with RBIs from Blake and Matt Kemp.
Los Angeles opened an 11-game homestand by handing the Padres their eighth loss in 10 outings.
San Diego overcame an early 1-0 deficit with a three-run second, but the Dodgers regained the advantage in the third on a two-run homer by Orlando Hudson and a solo shot by Manny Ramirez.
After the Padres went in front again with two runs in the seventh, Los Angeles countered with two of its own in the bottom half of the inning.
Pinch-hitter Mark Loretta singled in Kemp from third to tie the game and Blake scored later in the inning on a fielding error charged to catcher Nick Hundley.
Kemp doubled home a run in the eighth and Blake singled Kemp home to boost the Dodgers' lead to three.
Ronald Belisario (1-2), who came in with men on second and third and nobody out in the seventh, allowed both inherited runners to score but still got the victory thanks to the Los Angeles comeback.
Luke Gregerson (0-1) gave up the lead in the bottom of the seventh and took the loss.
Jonathan Broxton issued a leadoff walk in the ninth but then struck out Scott Hairston, Chase Headley and Kevin Kouzmanoff to pick up his seventh save.
