Jack Cust launched a fourth-inning grand slam Thursday when the Oakland Athletics recorded a 9-4 win over the Texas Rangers.
Cust’s only hit in the game was his fourth homer this season. Matt Holliday had one hit, a three-run blast in the fifth, Bobby Crosby had three hits and one RBI, while Kurt Suzuki had two runs and three its for the Athletics, who broke a four-game losing streak.
Winner Trevor Cahill (1-2) gave up one earned run and five hits in seven innings in his fifth career start.
Chris Davis and Jarrod Saltalamacchia led Texas with two hits and one RBI each. Marlon Byrd and Michael Young had two hits apiece for the Rangers, whose five-game winning streak ended.
Losing pitcher Brandon McCarthy (3-1) was torched for seven earned runs and seven hits in four innings.
