NHL: Chicago 2, Vancouver 1 (OT)

Andrew Ladd tipped a shot past Roberto Luongo 2:52 into overtime Thursday, giving the Chicago Blackhawks a series-tying 2-1 victory over Vancouver.

The Canucks appeared ready to take a two-game lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference semifinals, having ridden a shutout effort by Luongo deep into the third period.

Chicago tied the game, however, on Martin Havlat’s goal with 2:44 to play in regulation and Blackhawks goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin kept his team alive with a series of overtime saves.

The winning goal came when Dave Bolland seized control of a loose puck along the right boards and fired a slapshot toward Luongo. Ladd managed to change the puck’s direction, allowing Chicago to pull even four games deep in the series.

Vancouver will host the fifth game Saturday.

Darcy Hordichuk gave Vancouver the lead 8:32 into the second period, but the Canucks had trouble testing the Chicago goaltender. Khabibulin had to make only 14 saves to get the victory.

Luongo stopped 26-of-28 shots.
