NBA: Dallas 119, Denver 117

Dirk Nowitzki had 44 points Monday, 19 in the fourth quarter, and the Dallas Mavericks beat Denver 119-117 to stay alive in the Western Conference semifinals.

Nowitzki went 14-for-25 from the field and pulled down 12 rebounds. He sank a pair of free throws with 8.3 seconds left to play to help the Mavericks force Game 5 in Denver Wednesday, with the Nuggets up 3-1.

Josh Howard had 21 points and 11 rebounds for Dallas.

The Mavericks and Nuggets combined to draw seven technical fouls and two flagrant fouls. Dallas connected on 36-of-43 free throws while Denver went 32-of-44 from the line.

Carmelo Anthony led all scorers with 41 points to go with 11 rebounds and Chauncey Billups had 24 points and seven assists for the Nuggets.
