MLB: Oakland 7, Kansas City 2

May 14, 2009

Jack Cust produced three of his four RBI with a bases-loaded double in the seventh inning Wednesday, lifting Oakland to a 7-2 win over Kansas City.

The Athletics completed a two-game sweep of the Royals by handing Brian Bannister his first loss of the season.

Kansas City took a 1-0 lead into the sixth, but Jason Giambi doubled home a run to tie it and Cust put the Royals in front with a sacrifice fly.

Both those runs were charged to Bannister (3-1), who came into the contest with an ERA of 1.48.

Horacio Ramirez opened the seventh on the mound for Kansas City and Oakland sent 10 men to the plate in the inning while scoring five times.

The A’s loaded the bases with one out and Ramirez hit Kurt Suzuki with a pitch to bring home the first run of the inning. An infield single by Matt Holliday delivered another run, after which Cust drove a two-out double to right, clearing the bases.

Josh Outman (1-0) got the win, surviving six innings while allowing a run on three hits.
