Casey leads BMW golf event by 3 shots

Posted on: Saturday, 23 May 2009, 14:16 CDT

Paul Casey shot 5-under-par 67 Saturday to build a three-stroke lead through three rounds at the European Tour's BMW Championship in Virginia Water, England.

The native of Cheltenham has a 54-hole total of 13-under 203.

He pleased a partisan crowd at the historic Wentworth Golf Club with a bogeyless round that included five birdies.

I am hitting the golf ball where I want to, he said on the tour's Web site. It's nice that all the hard work I have put in this year with my coach is starting to pay off.

Denmark's Soren Kjeldsen (68) is second at 10-under 206.

Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy moved up to third place at 9-under 207 after a sizzling 7-under 65, while Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez, the defending champion, ballooned to a 2-over 74 and is 4-under 212 to join American Ben Curtis (73), England's David Horsey (74), Germany's Martin Kaymer (70) and Sweden's Alexander Noren (72) in 13th place.
