Landon Powell’s two-run sixth-inning homer Sunday propelled Oakland’s 6-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks, ending a three-game losing streak.
Oakland’s catcher also scored after walking twice.
Jason Giambi’s only hit was a two out, seventh-inning solo homer.
Adam Kennedy had two hits and two RBI and Ryan Sweeney added a run and two hits for the Athletics, who lost won 7-6 on Wednesday at Tampa Bay.
Giambi had become the 44th major leaguer to hit 400 career homers in Saturday’s 8-7 loss.
Winner Josh Outman (2-0) gave up two runs — one earned — and just four hits in 7 2/3 innings.
He was able to avoid the big inning despite walking five batters and not having a strikeout.
Arizona scored on Stephen Drew’s first-inning RBI ground out and Gerardo Parra’s eighth-inning double play groundout.
Justin Upton had two of the six hits for the Diamondbacks, who had won four in a row.
The losing pitcher was starter Jon Garland (4-3).
