Clark holds nerve to clinch Scottish Open

July 10, 2005

LOCH LOMOND, Scotland (Reuters) – South African Tim Clark
held off the challenge of Dutchman Maarten Lafeber and
Britain’s Darren Clarke to win the Scottish Open by two shots
on Sunday.

Clark, co-leader overnight with playing partner Lafeber,
fired a four-under-par 67 to finish on 19-under 265 at a
sun-drenched Loch Lomond.

Lafeber, chasing his second European Tour title after the
2003 Dutch Open, returned a 69 to share second place with Ryder
Cup player Clarke, after a 66.

Lafeber had cause to celebrate more than just a runner-up
spot, though, by securing his place at next week’s British Open
after finishing as the highest non-exempt player at Loch
Lomond.
