Lee drives in four runs as Cubs sweep Marlins

TORONTO (Reuters) – Derrek Lee hit his 27th home run of the
season and drove in four runs as the Chicago Cubs mauled the
Florida Marlins 9-2 in National League play in Miami on Sunday.

The Cubs completed a three-game series sweep with the win.
Chicago had lost eight straight before their series with the
Marlins.

Lee had a two-run homer, a sacrifice fly and an RBI double,
giving him 72 RBI. He homered for the second straight game
after missing three straight starts with a shoulder irritation.

Neifi Perez had three hits and drove in two runs, while
Todd Walker scored three times for Chicago.

Greg Maddux (8-6) went eight shutout innings for the win,
the 312th of his major league career. Maddux allowed just four
hits, striking out three and walking none.

Al Leiter (3-7) allowed six runs, five earned, on six hits
over three innings and took the loss.

Carlos Delgado hit a two-run homer for Florida’s only runs
in the bottom of the ninth inning.

In other NL games played Sunday, Geoff Jenkins homered and
drove in three runs as the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Braves
8-4 in Atlanta.

Chris Capuano (10-6) pitched five innings, allowing four
runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out six for the
win. Russell Branyan homered for the Brewers.

Roman Colon (1-5) pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing five runs
on five hits, walking two and striking out two to take the
loss. Jeff Francoeur and Rafael Furcal homered for the Braves.

In Pittsburgh, Carlos Beltran hit a two-run homer as the
New York Mets beat the Pirates 6-1.

Pedro Martinez (10-3) pitched seven innings, allowing one
run on five hits, walking one and striking out nine for the
win.

Kip Wells (6-9) went five innings, allowing five runs on
nine hits, walking two and striking out two to take the loss.
Rob Mackowiak had two hits and drove in a run for the Pirates.

In Philadelphia, Ramon E. Martinez singled in the winning
run in the bottom of the 12th as the Phillies beat the
Washington Nationals 5-4.

Rheal Cormier (3-2) pitched two innings, allowing two hits,
walking one and striking out one for the win. Ryan Howard
homered for the Phillies.

Sunny Kim (1-2) pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing one run on
four hits, walking two and striking out one to take the loss.
Jose Guillen homered for the Nationals.

In Houston, Morgan Ensberg hit a two-run homer as the
Astros beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-5.

Russ Springer (2-3) pitched one inning and walked one for
the win. Brad Lidge pitched one inning for his 20th save.

Duaner Sanchez (2-4) pitched one inning, allowing one run
on two hits, walking one and striking out one to take the loss.
Jason Phillips homered for the Dodgers.

In Denver, Xavier Nady homered as the San Diego Padres beat
the Colorado Rockies 8-5.

Paul Quantrill (2-0) pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing two
hits and striking out three for the win. Trevor Hoffman pitched
one inning for his 25th save and Khalil Greene homered for the
Padres.

Jeff Francis (8-6) pitched four innings, allowing seven
runs on seven hits, walking three and striking out five, to
take the loss. Dustan Mohr and Todd Helton homered for the
Rockies.

In Phoenix, Tony Clark homered as the Arizona Diamondbacks
beat the Cincinnati Reds 2-0.

Lance Cormier (5-1) pitched 1 1/3 innings, walking one and
striking out one for the win. Brian Bruney pitched one inning
for his 10th save.

Eric Milton (4-10) pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs
on five hits and striking out eight to take the loss.

In San Francisco, Einar Diaz hit a two-run double as the
St. Louis Cardinals edged the Giants 4-3.

Jeff Suppan (9-7) went 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs
on nine hits for the win.

Jason Isringhausen pitched the ninth for his 25th save.

Noah Lowry (5-8) allowed four runs on eight hits over seven
innings and took the loss.

Alex Sanchez had three hits and drove in a run for the
Giants.
