MLB: Seattle 3, Baltimore 2
Adrian Beltre delivered a bases-loaded single with one out in the ninth inning Wednesday, giving Seattle a 3-2 win over Baltimore.
The Mariners won their second straight in a contest that saw Ichiro Suzuki extend his franchise-record hitting streak to 27 games with a third-inning single.
Beltre gave Seattle a 2-1 lead in the third with a two-run homer and Baltimore tied it in the sixth on an RBI double from Luke Scott.
That is the way it stayed until the Mariners broke through against Jim Johnson (2-3) in the ninth.
Johnson, working his second inning in relief of starter Brad Bergesen, gave up a one-out triple to Franklin Gutierrez. Suzuki and Russell Branyan were intentionally walked to load the bases, bringing up Beltre.
Beltre worked the count full, then fouled off two pitches before stroking a single to left-center that brought home Gutierrez.
That hit made a winner out of David Aardsma (2-2), who worked the top of the ninth.
