Seldom used Fernando Nieve gave up two runs in 6 2/3 innings Saturday, helping the New York Mets record a 6-2 win over the New York Yankees.
The right-hander, who is 1-0, threw 108 pitches and gave up just four hits against the veteran Yankee lineup.
Omir Santos had two hits -- one a two-run second-inning homer -- and three RBI. Garry Sheffield also had two hits -- one a seventh-inning solo homer -- and two RBI.
Fernando Tatis knocked in a run and Fernando Martinez had three for the Mets, who broke their three-game losing streak.
Alex Rodriguez hit a solo second-inning homer, Derek Jeter had one RBI, and Brett Gardner had two hits for the Yankees, who have lost four of five.
Losing pitcher Andy Pettitte (6-3) gave up five earned runs and 12 hits in five innings.
The Subway Series at Yankee Stadium concludes Sunday afternoon.
