University of Connecticut men's basketball Coach Jim Calhoun was reported in good condition Saturday after breaking five ribs in a bike ride.
The Hartford Courant reported that Calhoun, riding in the Jim Calhoun Cancer Challenge Ride, fell 12 miles into the 50-mile course after hitting a pothole and going over the handlebars.
The paper said Calhoun was treated for injuries and then completed the final 38 miles -- fainting after reaching the finish line. Calhoun was taken to the UConn Health Center and informed he broke five ribs in the fall.
The Courant reported Calhoun was in good condition and should be out of the hospital Sunday.
Calhoun said this year he would return for the 2009-10 basketball season, his 24th with the Huskies. UConn was 31-5 this past season and advanced to the Final Four in the NCAA Tournament before losing to Michigan State.
