Torii Hunter hit three homers and Joe Saunders gave up a run and four hits in 8 1/3 innings Saturday in the LA Angels’ 9-1 inter-league win over San Diego.
Torii Hunter hit consecutive solo home runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings.
Jeff Mathis hit a two-run sixth-inning shot, Erick Aybar and Kendry Morales both had two hits and one RBI, and Juan Rivera hit a two-run first-inning single for LA. Vladimir Guerrero added a run and two hits for the Angels, who have won only three of their last seven games.
Saunders (7-4) walked one batter and fanned five in his 113 pitches.
San Diego’s run scored on Kevin Kouzmanoff’s sixth-inning homer. Chase Headley had two of the eight hits for the Padres, who have lost eight of 11.
Losing pitcher Josh Geer (1-2) yielded seven earned runs and nine hits — four homers — in 5 2/3 innings with one walks and five strikeouts.
