Tour rookie Anna Nordqvist collected her first tour victory at the LPGA Championship and vaulted 190 spots in the world women's golf rankings in the process.
Nordqvist was making her fifth start as a tour member at the LPGA major tournament in Maryland and finished with a 4-stroke victory over Lindsey Wright. As a result she rocketed from 214th in last week's rankings to 24 as of Monday.
She'd never finished higher than a tie for 17th in a tournament and the $300,000 first-place check at the LPGA Championship was about 10 times the total Nordqvist amassed in her other four tournaments.
Wright also made a solid rankings move, improving from 29th last week to 12th on the latest list.
There was only one change among the Top 10 with Jiyai Shin moving one spot to No. 4 and knocking Cristie Kerr down to fifth.
Lorena Ochoa is ranked No. 1 followed by second-ranked Yani Tseng and No. 3 Paula Creamer.
After Shin and Kerr are No. 6 Suzann Pettersen, seventh-ranked Angela Stanford and No. 8 Kim In-kyung. Helen Alfredsson is ninth followed by Karrie Webb.
