The Minnesota Wild are expected to name Todd Richards their next coach, the Star Tribune reported Monday.
The Minneapolis newspaper said the NHL club is expected to formally introduce the San Jose Sharks assistant coach as the second head coach in franchise history Tuesday afternoon.
Richards, a 42-year-old Minnesota native who played defense for the Minnesota Gophers, will replace Jacques Lemaire, who resigned after the 2008-2009 season. Lemaire guided the team for its first eight seasons.
Richards is the apparent pick of new General Manager Chuck Fletcher, who was hired to replace Doug Risebrough, who was fired at season's end.
