Boy, 8, dies in Kentucky elevator mishap
Kentucky authorities say they are investigating the death of an 8-year-old boy found pinned in a church’s elevator shaft.
Kentucky State Police said in a statement they were probing the death of Zachary Waddell, whose body was reportedly found Saturday on the lower level of an elevator shaft at the First Christian Church of Sturgis, Ky., the Evansville (Ind.) Courier & Press reported.
The Rev. Nate Harper of the church said the accident happened during a wedding reception for the boy’s grandmother. The newspaper said officials believe Zachary was riding the elevator in the church sanctuary by himself.
Union County, Ky., Coroner Stephen Shouse called the device
a jury-rigged elevator from many years ago that had been fashioned from a vehicle lift taken from an auto mechanic’s shop, the Courier & Press said.
