Tennis stars split over impact of rain

Tennis stars have opposing opinions about the necessity for the new retractable roof over center court at London's All England Club.

The New York Times reported Saturday while Venus Williams once said in a 2007 interview she enjoys playing tennis in the rain, other tennis stars have applauded the addition of a translucent roof to the London sporting facility prior to Wimbledon.

I feel like I achieve clarity when it rains, Williams said.

Andre Agassi, a former Wimbledon champion, said in May at the All England Club's official dedication ceremony for the roof that the change was needed for some time.

I don't think I've ever smiled so much on a tennis court, Agassi offered.

Andy Murray offered a more restrained comment regarding the roof, which will be on display when Wimbledon gets under way Monday.

It looks really nice, Murray told the Times, compared to most roofs.
