Dallas, Portland swap first-round picks

June 24, 2009

The Dallas Mavericks traded first-round draft picks with Portland Wednesday and picked up a second-round choice in the process.

Dallas had owned the 22nd pick in Thursday’s draft and gave that to Portland in exchange for both the 24th and 56th choices. In addition, the Mavericks will receive the lesser of Portland’s second-round picks next year.

The depth of the second tier in this year’s draft has given us the opportunity to trade down and not lose ground in terms of talent, said Dallas General Manager Donnie Nelson. This will give us added flexibility for the future.
