Report: Shaquille O’Neal goes to Cleveland
Cleveland and Phoenix have agreed to a deal that will send Shaquille O’Neal to the Cavaliers, ESPN reported Wednesday.
The deal would team the veteran center with NBA MVP LeBron James, boosting the Cavaliers’ chances of capturing the league title.
The report indicated Cleveland would send Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic to Phoenix along with the 46th pick in Thursday’s draft and $500,000.
A trade sending O’Neal to Cleveland had been rumored throughout the recently completed season. The 37-year-old center averaged 17.8 points and 8.4 rebounds per game last season.
Cleveland was eliminated in the Eastern Conference finals by Orlando, which then lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the Championship Series.
By ridding themselves of O’Neal, the Suns could save as much as $10 million next season.
