Erick Aybar had three hits, three runs and an RBI Tuesday to lead the LA Angels to an 8-5 win over Kansas City in Game 1 of a doubleheader.
Mike Napoli had a homer and two runs scored, and Gary Matthews, Jr. two RBI in the win.
Winning pitcher Ervin Santana (3-5) allowed five runs on eight hits in six innings. Brian Fuentes earned his MLB-leading 29th save of the season.
Billy Butler had a two-run homer and David DeJesus scored two runs for the Royals. Sidney Ponson (1-6) made his first start since May 29 and gave up six runs on eight hits in five-plus innings.
