Chiefs cornerback handed four-game suspension

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Eric
Warfield has been suspended by the NFL for the first four games
of the 2005 season, the Kansas City Star reported on Tuesday,
citing a spokesperson for Warfield.

The 29-year-old Warfield received the suspension for
violating the league's substance abuse policy.

The 6-foot, 200-pound defenseman pleaded no contest in
January to driving under the influence of alcohol after he was
arrested last September in Overland Park, Kansas.

It was the third time in three years that Warfield was
charged with drunk driving in Johnson County, the newspaper

An eight-year NFL veteran, Warfield was sentenced in March
to 10 days of jail, which he already served, followed by 80
days of house arrest.
